REPORTED SPEECH

Have a look at this picture and the sentences next to it! Notice that when the speech is indirect, we have to go back in time, so there is a backshift in the verb tenses.

The patient said that he felt sometimes the walls moved.

The doctor asked him if he drank coffee.
